What are the physical characteristics of LCD screens?

Author:admin / Publication time:2022-01-20

LCD screen is based on liquid crystal material as the basic component. The liquid crystal material is filled between two parallel plates, and the arrangement of molecules in the liquid crystal material is changed by voltage to achieve coloring and light transmission, in order to display images with different depths and scattering patterns. As long as a three value color filter layer is added between the two tablets, a colored image can be displayed. LCD display screens have low power consumption and are therefore favored by engineers. It is suitable for electronic devices that use batteries.
LCD screens are based on liquid crystal materials. Because liquid crystals lie between solid and liquid, they not only possess the optical properties of solid crystals, but also possess the characteristics of liquid phase flow, making them a type of intermediate phase. In order to understand the photoelectric effect of liquid crystal screens, we must explain the physical properties of liquid crystals, including their viscosity, elasticity, and polarization.

From the perspective of fluid mechanics, the viscosity and elasticity of liquid crystals can be said to be a liquid with arrangement properties. Depending on the direction of the applied force, it should have different effects. It's like throwing a short wooden stick into a flowing river. This short wooden stick flows with the river and looks messy at first. After a period of time, the long axis of all short wooden sticks naturally aligns with the flow direction of the river, indicating the flow mode with the lowest secondary viscosity and the physical model with the lowest free energy of flow. In addition, liquid crystals not only exhibit viscous reactions, but also exhibit elastic reactions. They all exhibit directional effects of external forces. Therefore, when light enters liquid crystal materials, it will inevitably propagate according to the arrangement of liquid crystal molecules, resulting in natural deflection images. As for the electronic structure of liquid crystal molecules, they all possess strong electron conjugation mobility. Therefore, when liquid crystal molecules are affected by an external electric field, they are easily polarized to produce induced dipoles, which is also the source of interaction forces between liquid crystal molecules. The liquid crystal screen used in general electronic products utilizes the photoelectric effect of liquid crystal to control external voltage, and then obtains contrast between light and dark (also known as visual optical contrast) through the refractive properties of liquid crystal molecules and the rotation ability of light, thereby achieving the purpose of imaging.

For LCD screen maintenance, in addition to paying attention to the above issues, you can also manually or cooperate with software. Due to the much shorter lifespan and faster aging rate of LCD screens compared to CRTs, special attention should be paid during normal use. For example, in the power management interface, set a time interval to automatically turn off the screen when the computer is not responding, or simply develop the habit of turning off the screen when the laptop is not in use for a long time to reduce unnecessary screen loss. In addition, in order to delay the aging of LCD screens, attention should also be paid to avoiding direct exposure to strong sunlight for a long time, using medium brightness/contrast as much as possible, and reducing the long-term display of fixed patterns (avoiding excessive local aging).
